Hope everyone’s week is going well I’m still getting back onto schedule from having surgery. But things are getting better. I’ve managed to read a few books here and there. I have also gotten things done for Instagram and Canva so I’m excited about that.
I have to admit I’m not the hugest fan of romances and smutty books, not because of the content. I care less what you are reading so long is everyone is of age and everything is consensual. I just find novels, especially heterosexual romances to be a little formulaic. Berries and Greed was very different though.
Synopsis
Beryl, our FMC lives with her aunt at a cult that worships Demigurus as greater beings. The cult basically think they are high powered sex gods. Beryl doesn’t believe in all that though and is simply there because of her aunt and a crappy childhood.
Enter our MMC he’s had trouble meeting other demigurus who would accept his lifestyle. Gried likes to smoke weed. He likes to spend his evenings watching TV instead of going out on the town. He’s still healing from the wounds of his last relationship. He is looking for a roommate which he goes to the cult not realizing it’s a sex cult.
While the rest of the cult fawns over him. Beryl shows great disinterest when he arrives, which for makes him pick her for his companion. The two agree to be just roommates as Gried helps Beryl adjust to the world outside the cult.
Beryl and Gried get to be good friends but soon start catching feelings for each other. Will they be able to get past the differences their species have? Or will things fall apart?

Review
I really enjoyed this book, I finished it in a couple of days and it was like 400-500 pages. As I said above I’m pretty over hetro romances. But Gried was so different from most MMC, he’s shy and unsure of himself. He prefers to stay in and relax and its so nice to see both introverts and weed smokers represented.
I also enjoyed Beryl. She comes from a somewhat sheltered background and is an older FMC. She’s around 35. It is interesting to see a character who hasn’t experienced all the ‘adult’ milestones. Beryl is dealing with starting her life anew at an older age.
I also enjoyed thing the author created their own species of monster. While I love seeing tropes like gargoyles and dragons in monster books, its really nice to see someone’s creativity. The Demigurus are interesting in the fact that they somewhat play off some monster stereotypes. They sharp teeth, claws and tails, but they are wholly different in their underground culture and shape shifting form.
I enjoyed the way their culture was worked into different parts of the book. We didn’t only see the culture dealing with the MMC. But we also saw it things like Beryl’s job and her friends. I’d give this book five stars, it was very creative and a satisfying read. I can’t wait to see more from this series.
