Weekly Reading Recap: December Highlights

How has everyone’s week been? Are you ready for Christmas? I can’t believe it’s only ten days away. I’ve got mostly everything done. I’d like to do a little more baking but that is really the only thing I have on my plate. My gifts have been bought and all my decorations are up.

Now its time to relax and enjoy Book Roasts Lightfall and some holiday books. I’m still working on a lot of arcs. Including but not limited to, This Princess Kills Monsters by Ry Herman. As well as Banned Together by Ashley Hope Pérez; Illustrated by Debbie Fong.

I finished a few books this week including Turning Twelve by Kathryn Ormsbee. A lovely story about growing up queer in a religious community in the early 2000s. I related to this personally as I came out in around the same period. My review of this should be up next week.

Another book I finished was Mascot by Tracie Sorrell and Charles Waters. It is an interesting story told in vignettes of six different middle school students and their teacher. They are all dealing with the issues of racist mascots. This book was a hold over from my Indigenous reads of November.

So far my favorite book this month has been the one I’m currently reading. I’m in the middle of Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha. I love the way polyamory is portrayed in this book. I can’t wait to put up a review for it soon.

This Saturday marked the beginning of Book Roast’s Lightfall. The sort of relaxed third semester of Magical Readathon. I’m looking to at least read a few holiday books over this period. Like Wreck the Halls and Nightmare before Kissmas. I may add a few spicy holiday shorts too depending on how much time I have.

I’m past my reading goal so anything I finish off now is just icing on the cake. I’m still going to try and finish five to six books in the last half of this month. I’d like to get to 130 for the year but we will see how it goes.

How has your week been? Let me know in the comments!
