Mistletoe and Mine

Synopsis
Fake dating the village grump is not what this Grinch had planned…
Sasha
Since inheriting my grandmother’s Christmas shop in the Cotswolds, I have one goal: honour her legacy and ensure the business survives. There’s just one problem.
I hate Christmas.
When Sebastian King threatens to tell the whole village, I have no choice but to fake date the annoyingly handsome, grumpy single dad to keep him quiet. In exchange, he’ll help me find my festive spirit as long as I play pretend.
The trouble is, I’m not good at pretending…
Sebastian
Since my rugby career ended, I have one goal: spend quality time with my daughter and make my grandmother happy. If that means helping fulfil her Christmas wish list, so be it.
Except, there’s only one wish, and it’s about me: find a girlfriend for Christmas and finally settle down.
Dating every single woman around is not the festive season I had in mind. So, when I discover Sasha Smith’s secret, of course I use it to my advantage. Despite our mutual dislike, a fake relationship with the curvy redhead fixes everything. There’s only one problem.
Our first fake kiss felt a bit too real…
Review
This book was a very cute and quick read. Jenner did a good job of worldbuilding. When you read the book you really felt like you were in the English countryside at Christmastime. As for the characters, I really liked Sasha and Sebastian. Sasha in particular was very sassy and opinionated sometimes to her own determent. It was nice to see the FMC be the grumpy part of the grumpy/sunshine equation.
Sebastian definitely played on the size different trope that is very popular in romance. He’s very tall and broad as a former rugby player. I also like that Jenner brings in a bit of disability issues. I won’t go into more on that, but disability is treated well.
Another thing that I like is that Sasha is plus sized and secure in her body. She enjoys how Sebastian makes her feel small. However, she is not so insecure that she relies solely on him to hold up her self-esteem.
These characters are well formed separately. Their romance becomes even more appealing as they push each other to become better people.
My only gripe is that it’s almost insta-love from their first meeting after they resolve to fake date. But it is a short romance novel so that kind of makes sense. So that’s not a slight against the book as much as it is a personal preference.
I’d give this book four stars, a sweet and quick romance perfect for the holidays.
